Terms of use
These terms apply when you use TaxUnderstood. By creating an account or using the tools you agree to them. Please read section 2 in particular: it explains what the service is and isn't.
1. Who we are
TaxUnderstood is provided by Micreations Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16797696), registered office 3rd Floor, 86-90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE. Contact us at hello@taxunderstood.co.uk.
2. General information, not tax advice
TaxUnderstood is a free tool that gives general information about UK tax, VAT, grants, funding and reliefs, based on what you tell us. It is not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice, and using it doesn't make you our client or create an accountant–client relationship.
- Tax rules have conditions and exceptions, and they change. Your report can only be as complete as your answers.
- Before you act, or decide not to act, check the official guidance we link to and speak to a qualified accountant or adviser about your circumstances.
- You stay responsible for your own tax affairs, including what you tell HMRC and what you claim.
- Grant and funding information comes from public sources. Schemes can close, change or run out of money without notice, and listing one doesn't mean you'll get it.
3. AI-generated content
Reports and some tool answers are written by an AI model. AI can make mistakes: it can misread a situation, miss a rule or state something with more confidence than it should. We give it verified facts and official sources to work from, and we link to those sources so you can check them. Treat AI output as a starting point for a conversation with your accountant, never as the final word.
4. Accuracy
We work hard to keep the information accurate and up to date, and we check scheme listings every day. But we can't promise that everything is complete, correct or current at the moment you read it. If something looks wrong, tell us at hello@taxunderstood.co.uk.
5. Your account
- You must be 18 or over and use TaxUnderstood for a business you run, are setting up, or advise.
- Give accurate answers and keep your password safe. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
- You can delete your account at any time from the Account page.
6. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- break the law, or use the service to help anyone evade tax or make a false claim
- upload anything you don't have the right to share, or other people's personal data you don't need to include
- try to get around usage limits, overload the service, scrape it automatically, or test its security without our written permission
- copy, resell or republish the service or its reports as your own product
- upload malicious code or try to access accounts or data that aren't yours
We may limit, suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
7. The service
TaxUnderstood is free. We may change, pause or stop any part of it, and set fair daily limits on AI tools. We'll try to give notice of major changes, but we can't promise the service will always be available or error-free.
We own the service, its design and its content, except public sector information, which is Crown copyright and used under the Open Government Licence. You may save, print and share your own report for your business.
8. Our liability to you
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that can't be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales.
Because the service is free general information and is provided for business use:
- we're not liable for decisions you make, or don't make, based on it, including tax, penalties, interest or funding you do or don't receive
- we're not liable for loss of profit, revenue, business or opportunity, or for any indirect or consequential loss
- otherwise, our total liability to you in connection with the service is limited to £100
9. Privacy
Our privacy notice explains how we use your personal data.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email if a change is significant. If you keep using TaxUnderstood after that, the new terms apply.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you have a problem, please contact us first so we can try to put it right.
